DOST 8 Brings Livelihood Training Sessions Against the Pandemic in Southern Leyte

One way to survive the COVID-19 pandemic is to be sustainable and resilient. 

DOST-8 thru the Provincial S & T Center in Southern Leyte took the initiative to bring livelihood training series on meat and coconut processing recently with orientation on basic food hygiene and good manufacturing practice (GMP) on September 22-23, 2021 at Tahusan, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. 

The activity started with an opening message from one of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Members of Southern Leyte, Hon. Myra Rentuza. Dr. Mary Ann Jilly Ramirez, Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) discussed basic hygiene and GMP while one of the department's instructors, Ms. Minerva Baclayon conducted the meat processing lecture. The hands-on training was supervised by Mr. Florencio Payac of SLSU. 

The second day also featured basic hygiene and GMP orientation to another set of participants which was discussed by Ms. Norma Cecille Bagarinao, SRS II of PSTC So. Leyte, while the lecture on coconut processing was done by Mr. Brayan Bornias of SLSU. The hands-on training was then supervised by Ms. Baclayon. The closing remarks were delivered by Provincial S&T Center, Engr. Florita M. Santiago. 

A total of 27 participants attended the two-day activity. The livelihood trainings were conducted as part of the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Program of the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte.
